Oct 2026: Proof of Presence - Safeguard on manual patrol completion
Patrol records are now better protected. Manual patrol completion can no longer be switched on for an office whose patrols rely on Start and Stop tags, which prevents patrols being closed without the tags being walked.
What it is and why it matters Proof of Presence
The Manual Patrol Completion Safeguard is a new check on the patrol settings for an office.
Previously, manual patrol completion could be switched on for an office even if its existing patrols were built around Start and Stop tags. This created a risk that a patrol could be closed manually without the guard swiping the tags that prove the route was walked.
With this update, manual patrol completion cannot be enabled for an office whose existing patrols use Start and Stop tags. This protects the integrity of patrol records and gives greater confidence that a completed patrol was physically carried out.
When to use this
This safeguard works automatically and needs no setup.
It is particularly relevant if you:
- use Start and Stop tags to prove patrols have been completed
- manage patrol settings across several offices
- rely on patrol records for compliance or client reporting
- are reviewing how patrols are set up at your sites
For example, if an administrator tries to switch on manual patrol completion for an office where patrols begin and end with a tag swipe, the setting will not be applied.
How it works at a high level
When a user tries to enable manual patrol completion for an office, the platform checks how that office's existing patrols are set up.
If those patrols rely on Start and Stop tags, manual completion cannot be switched on. Offices whose patrols do not use Start and Stop tags are not affected.
Best practice tips
To get the most value from this update, we recommend the following:
- Use Start and Stop tags where proof matters: For patrols that need clear evidence of completion, Start and Stop tags remain the most reliable approach.
- Review patrol settings for each office: Check that each office is set up in the way that matches how its patrols are meant to be completed.
- Plan changes before switching approach: If an office needs to move to manual completion, review its existing patrols first and speak to your Kinexio representative if you need support.
- Explain the change to administrators: Let anyone who manages patrol settings know why the option may not be available for some offices.
