Apr 2026: Guard patrols - A better way to complete patrols in the mobile app
We’ve introduced a new, more flexible way for guards to start and end their patrols — directly inside the mobile app. This update makes patrols faster, easier, and less dependent on physical tags, while still giving supervisors full audit-ready reporting.
Don't worry
The traditional Start/End tag method will continue to work exactly as normal for all clients who use it today.
Two Ways to Start & End Patrols
-
Traditional method — Start/end tags (still supported)
For many sites, guards will continue to:
Scan a Start NFC tag to begin
Scan an End NFC tag once all checkpoints are completed
This method remains ideal for sites that prefer a fixed, physical start and finish point. - New method — Start & end right in the app
Guards can now begin and end patrols with just a tap in the app:
Start Patrol in the app
Scan checkpoints as normal
End Patrol in the app when done
This reduces reliance on hardware, prevents downtime if tags are damaged, and supports more dynamic environments.
Checkpoint scanning (no change required)
Guards continue to scan checkpoints throughout their patrol using:
-
NFC Trusted Tags (encrypted, HiD)
-
NFC Non-Trusted Tags
-
QR Codes
Each scan captures:
-
Timestamp
-
Guard name
-
Checkpoint details
-
Device used
-
Optional notes/photos
Flexible, unscheduled “snap” patrols
Patrols remain free-flowing, guards can scan checkpoints in any order, supporting:
-
Routine patrols
-
Ad-hoc rounds
-
Spot checks
-
Client-requested inspections
-
All scans automatically sync into reporting.
Forms & QnAs at Checkpoints
Some checkpoints require a form or QnA to be completed. When scanned:
-
The form appears instantly
-
Mandatory questions must be completed before continuing
-
Responses are tied to that checkpoint for full reporting clarity
-
Common examples include equipment checks, compliance questions, and safety inspections.
In summary
You can now start and end patrols directly in the mobile app, no Start/End tags required.
Just tap Start Patrol, complete your checkpoint scans, and tap End Patrol when finished. Please ensure your app is up to date to access this verion.
